This is not a comfortable book. But it is honest. Born in a negro ghetto, Tom Skinner evokes the atm osphere of hate and bigotry that shaped his character. A preacher’s son, he saw white and black churchianity dominated by greed, lust, hypocrisy. Then God broke into his life, at the moment when Tom was planning a gang fight involving 3,000 kids. That nighf was the beginning of freedom for him. He realise d that beyond demonstrations and social action there is an even greater force that can liberate black and white alike.
